October 2009 - Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation works in partnership with Bruyère Continuing Care to Name Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka Wing in Palliative Care Unit
Ottawa, ON., October 13 – In honour of his many contributions to the community, Bruyère Continuing Care, and in partnership with the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, today officially dedicated a newly renovated section of Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital’s palliative care unit to Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka. The naming and renovation of this wing were made possible thanks to a $200,000 donation by the family of Shirley and the late Irving Greenberg to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.
The ceremony took place in the Capital Talk Family Room on the unit and was attended by Dan Greenberg and Barbara Crook, Shirley Greenberg, Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka, and officials, board members and donors from Bruyère Continuing Care and Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. This official naming is part of Bruyère’s Help Make Our Hospital a Home project which aims to remodel the entire palliative care unit.
"Rabbi Bulka has been instrumental in the continued success of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation - serving on our board and chairing our Courage Cabinet for years," remarked Linda Eagen, Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation President & CEO. "This recognition was Barbara Crook's and Dan Greenberg's idea and we are thrilled to partner with Bruyere Continuing Care for this very special tribute - honouring Rabbi Bulka’s amazing work in our community."
“I am so humbled by this recognition bestowed upon me today,” said Rabbi Bulka. “It fills me with pride to be standing here among some of the most giving members of our community. Palliative care is an extremely important part of health care, where compassion and care are provided to people at the end of their lives. I share this honour with the health care team here at Bruyère who each and every day make a difference.”
