FR Louise Fawcett Memorial Scholarship Fund

History of the Fund

Louise Fawcett was a respected oncology nurse who worked at TOHRCC for 19 years.  A great friend to all, especially the patients, Louise lost her own battle with cancer in May 2000 at the age of 51.  It was her wish to establish a fund to facilitate nurses who would like to return to school to advance their education.

The Louise Fawcett Memorial Scholarship Fund was originally established through in-memoriam donations and is sustained through the annual L3 Golf Tournament.

Purpose of the Fund

The Louise Fawcett Memorial Scholarship Fund will facilitate continued education at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, Nurse Practitioner and PhD levels. It also serves to support those who wish to achieve their Oncology Nursing Certification.  The scholarship is available to nurses specializing in oncology within the Regional Cancer program.  The fund will be administered through the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

The Louise Fawcett Memorial Scholarship Fund will also facilitate continued education at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels for Radiation Therapists. It also serves to support those who wish to achieve field specific education (ie- MRI and CT-scan). The scholarship is available to radiation therapists specializing in oncology within the Regional Cancer program.
