Coaching Workshops

Coaching Workshops are led by one of our Wellness Coaches. The sessions are designed to help manage feelings of stress and common treatment side effects as well as provide tips and tools that you can use to help manage changes related to your own cancer diagnosis or a cancer diagnosis of a loved one. The Workshops help you find balance between your mind, body, and spirit.

The Coaching Workshops require a payment for participation. All funds support our Group Coaching and Private Cancer Coaching sessions. By taking part in a Coaching Workshop, you are helping to provide Cancer Coaching to someone in our community.

Our Group Cancer Coaching programs change throughout the year. A list of the programs available to you can be found below. Please note that all of these programs are demand-based and will run dependent on the registration of our clients.


Coaching Workshops

Positive Thinking Through Self Hypnosis for the survivor

This program aims to assist participants in the following areas:

  • Experiencing deep physical and mental relaxation to assist in the healing and strengthening process
  • Processing and letting go of blocking emotions to promote new thinking and feeling
  • Using Health Promoting Imagery
  • Learning Self Hypnosis and other beneficial techniques
  • Becoming emotionally stronger and confident.

5-Week Program

This program is designed to help caregivers feel more peaceful and more empowered. Participants will explore their emotional needs and ways to strengthen and take care of themselves.

This program aims to assist participants in the following areas:

  • Needs of Caregivers
  • Navigating Changing Relationship Roles
  • Clearing Emotional Blocks
  • Focusing on Joy
  • Focusing on the Now

All sessions include mindfulness, self hypnosis and meditation practice.  Participants receive handouts and resources to continue in their journey towards wellness, balance and inner peace.

 Meditation for stress reduction

This group coaching workshop is for clients of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation who have met with their Cancer Coach and feel this opportunity will provide the support they are looking for at this time.

Recent studies at Harvard University suggest that meditation physically changes your brain’s gray matter for the better.  A regular meditation practice may include improvements in memory, sense of self, empathy and stress.

This 4 week meditation workshop will assist you with: strengthening and expanding your personal meditation practice, learning different approaches to meditation, how to transform your response to stress, and ways to access your inner resources for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Each 60-minute session includes a discussion on the benefits of that type of meditation, a brief and gentle physical yoga practice, an opportunity to practice the meditation, as well as group discussion/question time. Facilitated by the Director of PranaShanti Yoga Centre Devinder Kaur.

Creative Resilience Program

The training program is designed to guide participants in developing new skills in dealing with stress and life challenges as well as unlocking personal potential. The ability to respond rather than react is an ability that can be learned and mastered. It begins with self-awareness of feelings, moods and emotions which is the basis to master how we approach tasks in front of us, how we relate to people, and how we relate to our life in general.

The program draws from facilitator’s personal experience and from the latest scientific research as well as from ancient wisdoms. Intention and motivation of participants is key.  The group participation is crucial to help everyone involved in developing new skills of creative resilience.

Brain Fog

The Brain Fog program is a psycho-educational and interactive, multidimensional group program.  Clients learn a variety of techniques and strategies to manage cognitive changes experienced as a result of changes caused by cancer diagnosis and/or treatment.  The seminars are broken down into three main sections:

  • Memory
  • task management
  • psychosocial

Our next planned offering will be Mondays, March 20th to May 15th, 2017 from 10 to 11:30am (no class on April 17th).

The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation has partnered with TrueNTH Lifestyle Management (funded by the Movember network and in partnership with Prostate Cancer Canada nationally) to help men with prostate cancer move more and feel better.
Research has shown that participating in regular physical activity can decrease fatigue, and increase strength, aerobic fitness, flexibility, and overall quality of life and well-being.
The Cancer Foundation will be offering a 12 week exercise program for prostate cancer survivors, based on this research, and designed specifically to address the health and treatment related concerns for men living with this disease.
The exercise group meets for 1 hour twice per weekPlease come dressed ready for exercise, and bring your water bottle.

The planned offering will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 7th to April 27th, 2017 from 1-2pm.

Cancer and Exercise – Fitness Fundamentals Workshop

Exercising has many benefits.  People often don’t realize those very same benefits transfer over when you exercise during and directly after your treatments for Cancer.  This workshop will teach you all the benefits of exercise, how to safely and effectively progress your exercise routines, set goals, and stay motivated to exercise for the rest of your life. After completing this workshop you will have some tangible goals set, motivation strategies in place, and a variety of different exercise programs you can do on your own, or as part of a group. We’re not ‘fitness stiffs’ either, so you can expect to have fun while attending this small group course.

Please come dressed comfortably, ready for learning, and ready to exercise. We suggest bringing a towel and re-fillable water bottle.

Our next planned offerings will be Wednesdays, March 29th to May 3rd, 2017 from 9-10:15am as well as Fridays, May 5th to June 9th, 2017 from 9-10:15am.
