Honouring our Cancer Champions

At this time last year, our staff were putting the final touches on an event to honour Simon and Anna Czajezncky for their generous support of families facing cancer.

But then COVID-19 hit, and like every event across the city, Anna’s celebration was cancelled. And since we still can’t come together to celebrate a pillar of our community an entire year later, for now we’re determined to say “Thank You!” and share Anna’s story.

One can do many things to become a Cancer Champion, but it is rare for someone to do almost all of them.

Yet Peter Charbonneau is exactly that “someone”!

As a cancer survivor himself, Peter has been instrumental in advocating and raising funds for local cancer care over the years, and is a generous donor to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

This holiday season, the Cancer Foundation was fortunate to have Giant Tiger by our side to help give hope and spread holiday cheer! As you may have heard, Giant Tiger offered a generous $45,000 gift in support of Cancer Coaching as a Giving Tuesday match, to help inspire and empower donors in our community to make twice their impact on the lives of local families facing cancer.

Subhas and Uttra Bhargava love their community, but one of the things they love most is its potential – they know Ottawa is home to some of the best doctors, researchers and innovators in the world.

If you’re looking to speak with Dr. Kanta Marwah, there are a number of places you might find her. She could be traveling throughout her community finding worthy causes to support on behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, or creating her own endowment fund at the National Arts Centre.
